Here, we have the three older ones researching the plot of land. They would've been out here all day, looking, but we could only bring one home. Bosston and Lucy were taken to the little trees, some the same size as themselves! This year, Lucy got to trek right along with us. Last year, she rode in the backpack... She is slow, but determined!
She wouldn't keep her gloves on, but it was a gorgeous day, so she was okay. The skies were blue, and the air crisp! Great Christmas Tree hunting weather. We've been on this mountain in sunshine, rain, sleet and snow. This was the best weather yet!
Go BIG, or Go Home! That has been our motto in Christmas Trees!! 2006, our tree was a good 12 footer (love me some vaulted ceilings) but sadly with a growing family and furniture rearranging, we can now only get 7 footers:) Still lovely, of course, and now with a shorter tree, we don't need new ornaments! *** just so we make this clear, trees look a LOT smaller outside than they do inside:) half the fun I say!!!
CUT 'er down! I love this part. Mostly because I am taking the pictures and Nick does all the cutting! No, really though, another Christmas season is well under way now. This is the icing on the cake, the climax of the book, the part we have all been waiting for. The cut was a nice one this year. If only, I had taken a picture of our first tree in 2006... the trunk was massive, and the hack job just cutting it down and then still more cutting to get it into the stand... ah memories! I laugh at that now, but Nick still rolls his eyes at the experience:)
The kids wanted to badly to help daddy carry the tree to the yard, until they went a few feet... Needless to say, Nick picked the tree up and hauled it to the car UPhill. Men, gotta give it to them. These husbands and daddys really do take care of us!!
So, while our nice tree man and Nick were tying the tree to the car, the four fabulous Durant children ran and ran. They got tired, and decided to rest on the logs. It is so awesome to see them outside in Heavenly Father's world loving each other. Such a far distant land than from inside getting on each other's nerves!
That's all for now. I have more pictures of the final product, but those will be in a later post, so just keep checking back. I don't want all of our readers to just up and read and leave in one day... this is Christmas, of course, and more surprises await!!! Also, come the end of the year a special announcement will be made, but no more about that** stay tuned, and as always, Happy Reading!
