Family Night

I am so excited that we have been having Family Home Evening. So far, so good. I am enjoying this time together, but mostly enjoy that even after a few short weeks, my own kids are learning what Family Home Evening is all about. I only wished we would've started six years ago. Better late than never.
Last night, FHE was at our home. It made it easier on me, having had appointments all day in Portland, knowing that I could just come home, and had nowhere else to be. Jared and Julie did not come, but Candi and Andrew did. They brought yummy cookies and milk and that was great.
The lesson I prepared was on Treasures. Heavenly Father gave us our bodies as gifts and if we do what is right and use our "map" we will return to him and receive our ultimate treasure, which is Eternal Life. I was so happy to hear Dasher and Emmah say that their bodies were temples and that we needed to treat them right. NO tattoos, drugs, or bad things like that. We need to eat healthy foods, play outside, and take baths. Also, they knew to read scriptures, have prayers, listen to mom and dad, and be kind to one another. This made me so proud to be their mom. You never know if you're doing the right thing, but when your children can answer these questions on their own, you know. It was awesome.
The night ended with a treasure hunt. I made some clues and a map and the kids set out to find the treasure. They had fun figuring out the clues and using the map and in the end, the yummy cookies were our treasure. We then just visited with Candi and Andrew, and then called it a night. I started this whole FHE thing to help myself and my family, I just hope that it is working for the other families as well.
One last thing to share. I found this lesson from a website that is full of fun ideas for FHE, primary, YW and VT. They have lessons, handouts, cliparts, and even recipes. I know there are ton of these, but this is the newest one I found and I LOVE IT. heres' the address. www.sugardoodle.net. Check it out. Also, above is the picture of the map. I forgot to take pictures last night, but will try to get better.

I just started this tradition with the Houghtellings! We did our first one on sunday and it was very fun. We plan on doing it every six weeks as an extended family, and my hope is that everyone will begin to do fhe in there own individual families every week. There is something to this FHE thing that really works!

Now that I am in the Primary Pres. every time I have sharing time I am giving the children a lesson to take home to "teach" to their families. Send me you email and I will email you each months lesson. This way if you are ever in a bind or need something it is already done for you! Good Job and Keep it up. I love parents like you!
